Her headband has magical runes sewn into it, and she wears a black cape and shoulder pauldrons decorated with gems. Her gloves are white and her boots are grey, and she wears a belt with a sword attached at the hip.

[Background]

Lina comes from the kingdom of Zephilia, and is the second daughter of two merchants. Her mother used to be a sorceress and her father a mercenary, while her sister Luna was a waitress and a knight of the Flare Dragon Ceipheid. When she was young, Lina tried to make some extra money by projecting a magical image of her sister in the bath. Whatever Luna did to her as payback, Lina is too terrifed of the incident and her sister to ever speak of it. Her study of magic, though, began began because she felt inferior to her.

After becoming a full-fledged sorceress gaining a title (Lina the Pink), which Lina hates, Lina begins travelling the land. By the time that she runs into her first companion, Naga, she is well off enough to support her travels and feed herself, because she already had luggage full of magical treasures and studies, which Naga burned when declaring them rivals. Lina and Naga have many mishaps, all the while Lina trying to distance herself from the large-breasted woman, but never the less getting wrapped up in her troubles every single time. People start referring to Naga as Lina's sidekick, and associating the two of them together.

By the begining of the first TV series, Lina has apparently ditched the other sorceress and is travelling alone. She attacks a camp of bandits, lighting it on fire and stealing their treasures. By this point Lina has a reputation for herself, and people fear her by the name and nicknames alone. She fights off a few stragglers and runs into a swordsman named Gourry, who takes it on himself to adopt her as his charge and protect her from dangers. Later, when they reach a town, Lina sells some of her loot and while they are relaxing a dragon attacks the town. It belonged to the bandits she trashed, and the town begs her to help. She agrees, for a fee. But because the dragon becomes afraid of her because of her reputation, Lina becomes irritated and blows it up with a Dragon Slave spell, destroying the town.

After being chased away by the angry townsfolk, they travel to the next town. Over the next few days, Lina and Gourry are approached multiple times by a golem-like man and his henchmen who try to buy and then steal one of her treasures from her. A mysterious man who identifies himself as Rezo the Red Priest tells Lina that the man, Zelgadis, is after her treasure because it will release part of the Dark Lord Shabranigdo from his seal. While Lina ends up captured by Zelgadis and separated from Gourry, she eventually learns that Zelgadis wants the statue in her possesion because inside of it is the legendary Philosopher's stone, which he needs to kill Rezo with. Zelgadis explains that Rezo turned him into the creature he is now, and that he is not a good person.

When Rezo sends more people after Lina and Zelgadis, Zelgadis and his men switch sides and join Lina and Gourry. Lina begins to suspect that Rezo is after more than just the Philosopher's stone to cure his sight, as Zelgadis earlier explained to her. Since one of the minions that Rezo sent after them was a mazoku, one of the evil race of the world (just like Shabranigdo), she worries he is up to something more sinister. Rezo threatens the lives of the town they are in and so the group agrees to meet him in his tower. When they get there, he puppets Zelgadis to attack them, and takes away the statue. While everyone deals with Zelgadis, Rezo manages to ressurect Shabranigdo, who was sealed inside of his body. Rezo is consumed by the dark lord, and Zelgadis' men are killed before everyone else can retreat.

With Shabranigdo and the doom of the world looming, Lina, Gourry, and Zelgadis finally decide on how to face them. The monsters and trolls and creatures of the world are going crazy attacking the towns, and soon enough the group is forced out into the open to confront Shabranigdo. They try magic and the Sword of Light, to no avail. Finally, as a last resort, Zelgadis and Lina appeal to the remains of Rezo's soul to hold Shabranigdo back, and Lina calls on a higher power, the Lord of Nightmares, to cast the Giga Slave. Because of Rezo's help, they manage to defeat him, though the strain of such powerful magic drains Lina's hair to pure white.

Lina and Gourry part with Zelgadis and head to Atlas City, where Lina waits based on rumors that the prince of Seyruun will be passing through. Her hopes are crushed when a burly man requesting her help to fight some monsters turns out to be that prince. Lina agrees to help when money is offered, though. They lead her to a cave, but it turns out to be a trap that Phil's assistant/brother, Randy has orchestrated in order to steal the throne. Suddenly Phil's daughter Princess Amelia appears and overdramatically tries to put a stop to it all, but the place collapses when she uses her magic haphazardly. Since Randy had the payment for Lina, she has to travel with Phil and Amelia back to Seyruun.

On the road, after Lina stops a robbery with her magic, Amelia becomes obsessed with learning the Dragon Slave from her, calling Lina a true defender against evil. Lina makes Amelia run around doing useless tasks to avoid teaching her, because Amelia is too reckless with her obsession with justice. Eventually Amelia does give up, but not before pushing Lina into casting the spell just once to help out the town, resulting in an outbreak of formerly sealed spirits that haunt the town and possess Lina a couple of times. Amelia banishes all of the ghosts, and the group resumes their trip toward Seyruun.

When they reach Seyruun, there are wanted posters labeling Lina, Gourry, and Zelgadis as criminals. Two men, Vrumugun and Zangulus have framed them and enlist Amelia's help first capturing, and then attempting to coerce and chase Lina and Gourry to come with them to the city of Sairaag. Even when they leave the city, they are pursued by various other bounty hunters, and Zangulus and Vrumugun pop up at almost every turn. Vrumugun, despite being killed numerous times, always seems to find a way to come back. Along the way they get wrangled into a fake wedding, travel with an acting troup, and wear disguises (with Gourry in a dress) just to stow away on a boat, and fight a gay dragon.

Eventually they do make it to Sairaag, but then a priestess named Sylphiel runs up, recognizing Gourry. She and her father explain that they had been told that Gourry was under the control of the evil Lina inverse, which was just a lie that was told to them by a woman named Eris. She is the one who put the bounty on their heads, and people believed her because the great Rezo the Red Priest came to town with her. Completely suspicious of this, Lina and co. track them down to their mansion, where Eris, Vrumugun, and Zangulus confrot them. But no matter how many times they defeat Vrumugun, more copies spring up to take his place. Lina figures out that they are 'copy men', clones of himself. With everyone surrounded by the copies, escape seems futile, until suddenly Zelgadis bursts in through the window, killing one of the copies. He points out that Eris is the one controlling them.

Eris criticizes Zelgadis for turning on Rezo, but before Zelgadis can explain to the others how he knows her, the sound of Rezo's staff chimes and he announces himself. Everyone is in shock that he's still alive. They decide he must be a fake, which upsets Amelia because she didn't know that they had defeated the real Rezo, and she is freaked out by Zelgadis. But while they argue about it, Rezo challenges them to find out if he is fake or not. He deflects the attacks that they throw at him at first, and then casts a very powerful attack back at them. While they manage to hold it back at first, both Lina and Zelgadis' magic together is weakening too quickly. Suddenly someone casts a larger shield around them, and Sylphiel appears, saying she was worried about Gourry. Everyone decides to run.

Zelgadis splits up from the group to research what he can on the original Rezo, while everyone else heads to a sorcerer's guild to see if copies can be as powerful as originals. The only thing they have to go on by the next day is that Rezo's old magic was buried on the other side of Sairaag's ruins. When they head toward Sylphiel's house at nightfal to let her father know she's going with them, Rezo attacks them. Zelgadis can't land a single hit. Rezo begins to cast something ominous and Zelgadis yells at everyone to flee. They barely escape to the sky in a magical shield, but half of the town is leveled.

With nothing they can do but find the ruins with Rezo's spells, the group hurries to make it to the other side of town, fighting Zangulus along the way. When they finally get to the entrance of a dungeon labratory, it is locked by magic. It turns out that the sword of light was the only way to open it. Everyone heads down inside, but gets separated by magic. Lina and Sylphiel wander around for a while and get chased by some golems, but eventually catch up with everyone and find Gourry fighting Zangulus again. He finally defeats him, then they go deeper until they find a mazoku sealed in the form of a chicken. He tries to kill them when he breaks his seal, but they rile him up by calling him a chicken, when a tablet falls from the wall on Lina. It is Rezo's legacy, the magic he was working on. Using it as an amplifier, they attack and kill the mazoku.

Then the sound of Rezo's laughter echoes through the chamber and he summons the tablet away from them with magic. Eris catches it, and begins to gloat. But Lina calls Rezo out on being a copy, and they all attack him. Eris repels them with the tablet, and then Sylphiel senses an evil force around them outside of the dungeon. Eris proclaims that she is going to get revenge on everyone for having killed the real Rezo, whom she loved. She uses the tablet again, and again the evil energy around them starts to grow. Sylphiel screams for her to stop releasing the magic from the tablet, and everyone tries to stop them again. But Eris casts the spell of the tablet attempting to release the seal of the demon beast, Zanaffar, from where it is sealed in Flagoon, the great tree of the city. Power engulfs Copy Rezo, and he kills Eris on the spot. He crushes the jewel on his forehead, and vows to surpass his original.

As power explodes and Zannafar is reborn, whisps of sentient energy flows around Copy Rezo. He toys with them for a while but then flies everyone up to the surface, so that he can fight them fairly (thus beat them properly), and destroys the underground labratory in an instant. Rezo starts beating everyone around, trying to force Lina to cast the Giga Slave. Sylphiel also notices the spirit of the Flagoon tree stirring. With everyone hurt, Lina takes the Sword of Light and goes after Rezo, beginning to cast the Giga Slave. As she gathers the energy and casts though, Sylphiel tackles her and begs her not to cast a spell that could destroy the world if she makes one mistake. In anger, Rezo tries to kill Sylphiel, but Lina takes the hit for her and nearly bleeds to death. Sylphiel begs the Flagoon tree to lend her strength casts a ressurection spell to save Lina.

Beneath the tree, Sylphiel goes to retrieve a holy sword enshrined there. She takes the Bless Blade, and then Lina wakes up just in time to take the sword when Rezo begins attacking them again. The sword lights up and its energy finishes healing Lina's injuries. They realize the sword and the tree are what feed off of Zanaffar's energy when he is sealed away, and that they can use it to absorb and defeat him again. They catch up to everyone again, where Zelgadis, Amelia, and Gourry have learned to use spells to power up the Sword of Light to attack Rezo. With that tactic to drive Rezo toward the holy tree, Lina is able to impale Rezo against Flagoon with the Bless Blade. He passes away but remorsefully, asking to be buried under the tree. In the end, Sylphiel stays to help rebuild her city, while Lina and company get dragged back to Seyruun for some unknown adventure.

[Personality]

Lina inverse has a very brash personality. Usually people's first impression of her is something along the lines of incredulity, intimidation, or irritation. Never one to hesitate to speak her mind, if she has a problem with something, she'll solve it with her fist, a well placed fire ball, or some flippant remark that just may devolve into an argument. Despite that though, she has a conscience. It's just... buried under dubious morals. Her daily motivation is either food or treasure, leading her on adventures around the world. Since she was raised by merchants, who were formerly a swordsman and sorceress respectively, she has a well rounded idea of how to take care of herself and what she wants.

She is curious and intelligent, calling herself a genius for good reason. It's said that Lina took up magic out of an inferiority complex to her sister, but that backfired when she let her greed get the better of her by broadcasting magical images of Luna Inverse in the bath for some quick cash. While this left Lina with an immense and visceral fear of her sister that she won't even speak of, she still kept up with her magic and eventually set out to learn anything she possibly could. Lina loves to hoard all types of treasure, from the textbooks and scrolls of magic to artifacts that she can either sell or use to become more powerful. It's not just magical knowledge that makes her smart, though. Lina has common sense for the most part (when not letting some spur of the moment reaction overrule her judgment), and has often had the foresight to piece together what an enemy is up to based on the things she has observed. She has prevented people from falling into traps and will notice little details that others might miss... at least until karma or comedy dictates that something hypocritical happen and something ironic backfires in her face.

But Lina loves the other kinds of treasure, too. Money, jewels, and the idea of a castle or wealthy clothes are enough to send her into a blubbering mess of anticipation. It's a weakness of hers that she'll sometimes go against her very own judgment for the sake of money or something valuable. While Lina is a loyal friend, that doesn't mean she won't momentarily throw someone under the proverbial bus just to get what she wants in the moment. The same thing goes for food. Being a sorceress is a great strain on the body's metabolism, and she is always hungry. If the food is terrible though, Lina will make a big fuss over it because she places such high standards. Between her and Gourry they can eat an entire restaurant's worth of food. Lina is also always trying to get Gourry's Sword of Light from him, because it's a legendary artifact.

Her ego is big enough to mow others down with, but beneath it all is definitely an inferiority complex in some ways. Lina calls herself a beautiful sorcery genius, with good reason, as she has a reputation to back it up, and the spells to prove it. She will try to one-up someone else if she feels like her own standing is threatened, sometimes even over something small and petty. But she does pick her battles, and it's not as if she walks around challenging anyone and everyone. She is aware that the people who go around doing that usually are trying to make up for something, whereas Lina will defend herself when she feels insulted. She'll hurl out insults sometimes rather than resort to magic, but a brawl isn't always out of the question either. Mentioning how small her chest is is sure to gain one a swift right hook, and she silently compares herself to other women's assets with disdain.

Despite all of this, Lina is a loyal friend to anyone she takes a liking to. She won't pick on the weak, unless they are doing something cowardly like harming others. She steals from who she considers low-lifes, such as bandits and thieves, earning her nicknames such as Bandit Killer and Enemy Of All Who Live. She'll generally stand up for her friends if they are picked on, and if someone hurts one of them, they will be on her permanent bad side after that. Arguments may be common, but most of it is good natured ribbing of the sort that people who know each other well trade verbal blows to see who can outdo the other. Those fights over food, treasure, or accomplishments that spill over into these relationships aren't hurtful grudges, just the sort of over the top antics that she is prone to.

Even after being enemies with Zelgadis, Lina treated him like a friend after realizing his side of things. She will brush off transgressions if it's clear the other person is not doing something wrong anymore. Rather than dwell on the past, Lina looks forward, despite her over the top judgments at times. She really hates being gloomy, and will change the subject, give an impromptu pep talk, or argue the angst out of a situation. She is a very big optimist, saying that even if there is a 99 percent chance of failure, that 1 percent means that you can't give up or you'll lose it. It's because of that willpower that she and her friends were able to defeat Shabranigdo, and Lina was the one at the end who put forth the idea that it might not have been Rezo's will after all that made him do such terrible things, showing she is capable of great forgiveness. Her grudges are just silly petty things, but the big things she can be quite mature over.

Lina has a sense of honor, somewhere. She won't sacrifice others to win a battle, at least not in a way that permanently injures them. Collateral damage may be another thing entirely, but the idea of someone innocent being killed for any reason will piss her right off. If someone has picked a fight with her though, she has no qualms against defending herself, and if they die as a result of still coming at her, she is not going to beat herself up over it. Most of the seriousl battles Lina gets into are because she walks into major trouble with someone up to no good. Rather than walking away from it and letting someone else deal with it, she won't quit until she's won and stopped them. She could have run away from the battle with Shabranigdo, or taken his offer to be his servant, becoming powerful and having anything she wanted, but she refused. Her pride is one major thing, but it's also that she just doesn't settle for that sort of thing. Even when Amelia begged her to teach her the Dragon Slave spell, instead of refusing completely, Lina (although it was quite roundabout) taught her why it was a bad idea instead. She just did it in a way that she also felt justified for Amelia's annoying antics by forcing her to do meaningless tasks to try and get her to quit.

As helpful as Lina can be though, she knows how to get her worth out of anything. She'll bargain a sale high enough to get her something good out of it, and she sometimes will enchant her own loot before selling it in town, such as turning gems into magical protection amulets. When Zelgadis tried to get the statue from her, before she knew which item of treasure he was after, she set all of her prices so rediculously high he would not be able to pay them, because she knew if he wanted it that badly it had to be worth something more than money could buy. She's not above blackmailing or extorting someone as a low blow if the person is asking for it.

Also, for as tough as Lina acts, there are two things she is absolutely terrified of. Her sister, Luna Inverse, must have done someting so horrible that she will never speak of it again, and mention of her alone can make Lina shriek. She is also afraid of slugs, to the point that she probably needs someone to drag her away from them. She won't run screaming from fish-men... okay she might, but Lina merely is disgusted by the existence of them due to some bad experiences.

In battle, Lina is quick to react, and great at teamwork. Her ego won't get in the way if people need to work together, and she'll catch on to what others are doing and match her tactics. often she comes up with a way that everyone's strengths can be used together to gain the advantage, and will tag team with attacks or even use her magic to power up another person, such as flying someone at the enemy or putting a spell on their weapon. Even when she traveled with Naga, she could begrudingly coordinate an attack or two.

[Specialties/Abilities]

Lina Inverse has a wide range of spellcasting abilities. Her specialty in particular though is Black Magic and Shamanism. This site lists all the categories, and with the exceptions of curses and those listed that say she is unable to cast, anything under Black Magic, or Shamanism she is capable of casting. She also knows a handful of white magic spells, such as healing, sleep, and other low level but helpful spells.

http://inverse.org/e/bkg/magic/cats.shtml

Lina's magical ability comes from how much she studies and collects the various texts in her world. Magical stamina is more like a mental stamina, though casting a lot also leaves a sorceress hungry, which is why Lina is always eating so much. If she is low on energy though, it becomes much harder for her to cast, especially during 'that time of the month', since understandibly it would leave her feeling pretty weak. This is also a source of gags in the show, but it is definitely one of Lina's weaknesses.

In the second season Lina can cast stronger spells without straining herself so much because of magical amulets she possesses that cast a boost spell. She will not have this in game, so some of her more powerful spells will be too difficult to cast, or will cost her significant effort. She'll also be weaker in general, and casting on the constant level she is used to will tire her out a little faster.

Magic in Slayers works by what are called Chaos Words. Understanding the words are critical to properly casting a spell. If the user does not understand them then the effect of the spell can go awry, with the result ranging from a weakened effectiveness, to far more dangerous of a reaction than wanted. This is why casting spells such as the Giga Slave are considered too dangerous. One wrong slip could engulf the caster and destroy the world. This spell won't be available to Lina.

Black Magic, Lina's specialty, is offensive and draws its power from the Mazoku race. Their energy is based on fear, hate, anger, sadness, and any other negative emotion. So none of the spells in Black Magic are pleasant. They aim for pain and injury, usually with a good deal of destruction. It's not limited to a specific element as those in shamanism are categorized, where a sorceress might specialize in one type. From Dynast Brass's lightning to a Gaav Flare's fire, each spell's effect is more aligned to the dark lord it draws from. If a Mazoku lord is destroyed, that magic will no longer exist because the power has nothing to draw from.

Shamanism has five categories. Air, Earth, Fire, Spirit, and Water. Water and fire magic can cancel each other out, or have an explosive combination when two opposite attacks hit. Earth magic is better used for battles on the ground, since most attacks will spring from the Earth itself. Air shamanism is quite versatile, used for flying, shields, and attacks like lightning or powerful gusts of wind. Spirit shamanism is very useful against Mazoku though because it attacks the spirit on the astral plane, and a Mazoku's body exists purely on that side. It can damage human or other souls though as well, and can be used for things such as pinning a shadow in place to keep someone from moving, or protecting an object or person from being scryed, or even to puppet others, though Lina does not use the latter.

White magic is holy, and used for healing or banishing evil. A heal spell will not heal in the sense that it fixes everything up nice and neat. It instead speeds up the metabolism of the target, thus making healing occur much faster. It can stop the flow of blood and knit flesh back together, but if the injured person tries too much too fast, they will re-open the wound. White magic also has practical spells, such as lighting up a room or locking a door. A sleep spell will put a person to sleep for half a day.

Lina is also able to fight with a sword, but not on the level of a master swordsman. Her build is small and thin, so she is weak against fairly muscled people. Her advantage would be in her speed, and the ability to balance fighting with a blade with casting a spell. She tends to avoid using it unless neccessary though, favoring magic most of all.

Lina's stomach is also a bottomless pit. Does this count as an ability? It probably should.

[Affection] What type of affections are allow/disallowed and would your character do this to others?

On the surface Lina doesn't really bother with getting very close to people. The truth is though, her friends are incredibly important to her. She's just not the type to outwardly show it. When things get kind of sappy, Lina gets flustered and might slap someone on the back or, if embarrassed, go so far as to throw a punch and get really red in the face. But if she's around someone long enough and they go through enough together, it's possible strong feelings may form, it's just a long and awkward road for it to get there.

As for what I'm comfortable writing, do what's IC for your character to do, I just won't explicitly write anything over R. If in doubt, just drop me a line and ask!

[Fighting] Can other characters fight/injure/kill your character? You can also mention how well your character is at fighting and if he/she would invoke fights.

Yes, yes, and yes! If you're going to kill Lina, please work it out with me before hand, but battles are awesome and definitely IC! Lina's got such a brash personality that it would be totally and completely unfair not to allow it to come back around to her with some antagonism and consequences! She constantly makes enemies in the show, and even her friends sometimes get exasperated with her enough for a little brawl. She's a sorceress/mage, so magic is her specialty, but she can fight by sword a little bit too, even though anyone bigger than her will have a physical advantage.

[Other Permissions] Can telepathic characters read your character's mind? How much can fourth wall breakers say? In other words, how intrusive can another character be toward yours? If there's anything you don't want a character to bring up or know about your character, just fill it in here.

If your character is extremely powerful then it's possible they can read Lina's mind. However, her headband is enchanted to protect her against such things, so please discuss it with me before hand. The same goes for any kind of mental attack. It's likely that the ward will repel it.

I'd rather not break the 4th wall if possible, but if you absolutely have to then just make it something obscure that won't make my character think that she's fake.
